What is happening in LOTE - Auslan 2026 - Term 3
As we walk around the school, it’s lovely to see students using Auslan to sign ‘Good Morning, Good Afternoon, thank you, toilet please, drink of water and many more signs in their daily routines.
Foundation students have been learning the alphabet and how to sign their name. They did a wonderful job in making their bookmarks. In addition to this they have learnt about domestic animal signs.

Year 1 students have extended their knowledge not only about domestic animals signs but also farm animal signs. They are practicing simple conversational questions such as “Do you have a pet?”, “What is your favourite animal? and “What animal do you like?

Year 2 ‘s are learning new signs associated with the seasons, weather and items of clothing worn in the various seasons. They are practicing the signing of their favourite AFL teams, through memory games and matching activities, as well as matching Auslan signs to relevant pictures.

Year 3 & 4’s are practicing conversational phrases, learning to ask questions like Sports you like What? AFL team barrack for What? using Auslan grammar conventions. Students are building their knowledge of more complex signs related to weather and season, places in the community, sports and places of interest.

Year 5 & 6’s are advancing as they are engaging in simple conversations using the Auslan conventions as they design new AFL team jumpers. They have learnt about handshape, orientation, location and non-manual expressions (HOLMs). Their skills have been put into practice through simple games, activities and use of technology reinforcing their skills. (BLooket Auslan).

Remember, keep practicing your sign language everyone!
