Welcome to Term 4

The school year has flown by and has been very busy and exciting! This term will consist of consolidating concepts previously learnt and preparing our students for Year 4, 2019!

Our teaching and learning will continue to cater for the individual learning needs of each child in all subject areas.

Key Dates for Term 4: (whole school and specific to Year 3)

  • Mt Morton Camp – October 17th – 18th (3/24 & 3/25) October 18th – 19th ( 3/22 & 3/23)
  • Cup Day Public Holiday – Tuesday, 6th November
  • Curriculum Day – Monday, 3rd December (NO SCHOOL)
  • 2019 Transition Day – Tuesday, 11th December
  • Family Christmas Singalong – Wednesday, 12th December at 5.00pm
  • Final Whole School Assembly – Thursday, 20th December at 2.30pm
  • Term 4 ends – Friday, 21st December at 1.00pm


Communication:

Class Dojo – Is currently our primary communication tool between parent and teacher.

Sentral – The parent portal can be accessed for absences and reports. 

 

English:

We will continue to use our whole school programs in Reading, Writing and Spelling. Students will engage in learning CAFÉ strategies, completing Daily 5 activities and understanding spelling patterns and phonics through the SPALDING Program. We will also be revising the 7 Steps to Writing Success and VCOP and Big Write during Writing sessions.


Mathematics:
This term we will be covering the following topics:

Operations – Addition and subtraction number facts and equations at individual point of need.

Place Value – Recognise, model and represent numbers up to 10,000 and beyond - Partition, Rearrange and Regroup.

Problem Solving – Rich assessment tasks.

Multiplication – Emphasis on times tables.

Applied – Shape, Symmetry, Transformation and Location, Geometric Reasoning, Area, Perimeter and Fractions and Time.

 

Inquiry Learning:

This term we are focussing on two topics – History (Indigenous Traditional Lifestyle) and Science (Feathers, Fur or Leaves).

 

Wellbeing: (THRIVE)

This term the whole school will continue to follow the THRIVE program. The key values of THRIVE are: Enjoy positive emotions, be healthy, try your best, relate well, get involved, and live your values.

 

ICT:

The Year 3 students will be accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics during class and ICT sessions. They will have their current skills updated and refreshed for programs such as Word. They are learning to correctly save and retrieve their work from folders on the school server.
